The Renovation Diaries - What's Inspiring MOXON Right Now

After years of talking about it, we're finally renovating our house. And I do mean years. If you follow MOXON on Instagram, you'll know that the last few have been a lot, 2 young kids, a growing product range, trying to build MOXON into something we're really proud of. Something always had to wait, and for a long time it was the house.

But now it's happening and I have surprised myself by really enjoying the process so far. We have been thinking about this for 5 years, since we bought the house and have identified all the improvements and things we want throughout that time.

The brief was simple: more light, more connection to the garden, spaces that feel considered and well designed. Very much like our MOXON products. This is simple in theory but hard in practice.

The kitchen

This is the one I've been most obsessed with. I have loved wooden kitchens for years mainly inspired by the Uncommon Projects kitchen I saw at Clerkenwell Design Week probably about 10 years ago now. Unfortunately our budget doesn't stretch to a bespoke wooden kitchen so we had to come up with a colour palette for our painted doors.

I've had the Colour Dictionary on my desk for months, it's been genuinely useful for understanding how colours sit next to each other rather than just going off gut feel. We have landed on Chrome, chartreuse (yes, really, it works), purples and mauves, and then browns and natural wood to anchor all of it. It shouldn't work on paper, I am hoping IRL it will.

We are having modern timber windows through the whole house which I am hoping will keep everything feeling warm, even when the colours are doing something wilder.

The MOXON bit

The research I do for the house and the research I do for MOXON have started to blur into each other, which I didn't really expect.

The colour combinations I keep coming back to are shaping how I think about future products, what feels current without being something I'll be bored of in two years.

Renovating with a toddler, a baby at home, a business, and a product launch on the go means every decision gets made in stolen moments. But weirdly, that's made me more decisive. You stop second-guessing and just back yourself. That's what I want more of at MOXON too.

It's going to be a slow one. But I'll keep you posted.
