Design Inspo round-up Volume 003

Design Inspo round-up Volume 003

A round-up of what has been inspiring us this month, from beautifully designed interiors, to mind-blowing architecture, perfectly designed products, books and podcasts and whatever else takes our fancy that month.

This month is very heavy with Exhibitions as there seems to be loads on in Summer.

Turn End - every year I make the promise that I will go this open day and I haven't made it yet, tickets are available now for August so wanted to share this one early. You get access to all 2 houses and gardens.

Turn End is one of three houses designed and built in the 1960s by internationally renowned architect Peter Aldington in the village of Haddenham, Buckinghamshire.

The three houses received a Royal Institute of British Architects Award for Architecture in 1970 and were listed at Grade II* in 2006;  only a handful of post war houses are listed at this grade.

4000 Weeks - I made a promise to myself that rather than mindlessly scrolling my inbox and open tabs at lunch time I would read a few pages of a book and I chose this one. It's a book about finding peace with not being able to everything and learning focus on the stuff that matters and practicing the art of living in the moment. Would recommend.

Gardening Bohemia, wouldn't you just know it, another garden themed exhibition. Two of my favourite things come together, literature of gardening in this exhibition.

This summer the Garden Museum presents the first exhibition to explore the gardens of the Bloomsbury group.

Gardening Bohemia: Bloomsbury Women Outdoors centres on four extraordinary women and the green spaces they surrounded themselves with: writer Virginia Woolf and her garden at Monk’s House; her sister artist Vanessa Bell, whose garden and studio was at nearby Charleston; arts patron and photographer Lady Ottoline Morrell, who presided over Garsington Manor; and garden designer and writer Vita Sackville-West and the gardens at Sissinghurst Castle.

Home Studyo Collection - When it comes to buying homeware and decorative items I always tend to focus on things that will intrigue me and interest me 10 years from now, I try to use this to steer me away from buying things that won't last. This is an item which I think passes that test, the whole range is unusual and potentially a modern classic. Ceramics made to look like inflatable products.

Tropical Modernism: Architecture and Independence- And the final pick is another exhibition I am interested in going to. Tropical Modernism was an architectural style developed in the hot, humid conditions of West Africa in the 1940s. After independence, India and Ghana adopted the style as a symbol of modernity and progressiveness, distinct from colonial culture.

On at the V&A until 22.09.24 - tickets here
