We are excited to have started working with a few B-Corp brands recently.
Looking out for B-Corp credited products is an easy way for us to know that the brands we are partnering with are commited to creating a better world and a more sustainable way to develop their product ranges.
We want to explore more about what being a B-Corp actually means and how it's measured. We delved into it and thought we would share our findings with you.
What even is B-Corp anyway?
Certified B Corporations, or B Corps, are companies verified by B Lab to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. There are now over 8700 B-Corps around the world with 2000 of them in the UK.
How do you gain the status?
The process is incredibly long and lengthy, B-labs delves in to every area of the business and scores it based on a set of criteria.
To achieve and maintain certification, all B Corps:
1. Complete the B Impact Assessment and achieve a verified total score of 80+ points.
2. Meet the B Corp legal requirement – amending Articles of Association to embed a commitment to consider the impact of decisions on all stakeholders.
3. Sign the B Corp Agreement and the Declaration of Interdependence (see below).
They also publicly list their impact score on the B Lab Directory and recertify every 3 years.
